Does massage help carpal tunnel pain? You bet it does! How?
Massage therapy helps normalize tissues. If your soft tissues (that means not bones) are "too tight" or "too loose-overstretched" massage helps get them back into neutral position.
Therapeutic massage lifts, warms, pinches, presses, rubs, and moves your soft tissues in many directions. If you go to a skilled professional massage therapist (see the "Massage" Category on the right hand side of this page to find an article about how to find one) that therapist can make
a world of difference for you.
If you do your own massage (if you are able to, directions are in the "Massage" Category) that also can help. It's sometimes a bit harder to access all parts of your arms and your own back, but it can be done if necessary.
Massage is a very good first step in getting rid of carpal tunnel symptoms.
Stretching is also good but, tell you the truth--massage is better. Stretching shortened muscles helps and strengthening muscles that are a little too much stretched is helpful in getting back into muscular balance.
I have had lots of readers tell me they are feeling better by doing their own self-massage OR going to a massage therapist OR doing stretching exercises that they have learned from me. Look around--check all of the Categories.
